Arthur married Launceston-born Mary Daly in 1904 and the couple lived most of the married lives at 12 Turner Street, Abbotsford (the same street at the Collingwood Football Ground). Arthur had his leathergoods store/factory at 104 Smith Street, Collingwood in 1918. It has been learned that he made light horse leggings for our WWI soldiers - a pair of which were advertised for sale in 2003 at "Collectors Armoury" on the Gold Coast for the price of $97.00.

Arthur and Mary saw at least one of their sons enlist for duty in WWII. James Arthur did not see active duty as he remained in Melbourne where he served as a Clerk with 2 Australian Base Ordnance Depot.

Arthur was a keen cricketer and long-time member of the Collingwood Cricket Club. He was Treasurer of the club for many years and was great friends of Jack Ryder and his brother.

Arthur died at St Vincent's Hospital from "Carcinoma of Stomach" and Cachexia, on 30 March 1938. He was buried at Heidelberg Cemetery on 1 April 1938. His Last Will & Testament, dated 15 March 1938, bequeathed his estate to be shared equally between his children and his sister-in-law, Elizabeth Daly. This included his home at 12 Turner Street (a 6 room double fronted brick and weatherboard dwelling with a weatherboard outbuilding used as a factory and workshop), household furniture, savings in bank, and life insurance policy - all of which totalled £1625.
